31st Te Marua Masters
160 players took part in the Masters this year, a significant increase on last year.
Haupai Puha our local inter provincial player won the Senior title for the 3rd consecutive year and Joanna Cox took out the Silver title for the eighth time.
Intermediate Men's was won by Club stalwart, Allan Fayen with the Bronze title going to club member Kerry Baines. The Junior Men's title was won after a one hole playoff by Scott Stone in freezing wet conditions at 7pm.
Overall scoring wasn't easy, with the course set out for championship conditions by long serving Green Keeper Dave Sully and his able staff and volunteers.
Newbolds Upper Hutt donated a 42" Plasma TV and Bar fridge which were raffled off over the tournament. A packed clubhouse for the prize giving evening ended the tournament on a most enjoyable and successful note.
Congratulations to the following winners:
- Senior Haupai Puha (Royal Wellington)
- Intermediate Allan Fayen (Te Marua)
- Junior Scott Stone (Te Marua)
- Silver Joanna Cox (Judgeford)
- Bronze Kerry Baines (Te Marua)
Recently two of Te Marua's junior golfers took part in the National Maori Championships. Ryan Braybrook in the Intermediate section came from three behind to become the National Stroke Play Champion. He followed that form into the Match play section, unfortunately finishing runner-up in the final after 19 holes of an epic tussle with his opponent.
Alanah Braybrook finished 5th in the Silver section stroke play and in a very tough match was beaten in her quarter final by the eventual winner.
Kawhena Rangihaeta was runner up in the Silver Womens strokeplay but unfortunately was eliminated in the quarter finals of the matchplay.
Past TMGC member Haupai Puha won the Senior mens matchplay title. This completed a great week for the Te Marua contingent at the Maori Nationals, congratulations to you all.
On a happier note for Alanah, she won the Featherston Classic in the New Year, in the process breaking the Featherston Course record with a two under par 71.
Congratulations to Barry Griffin, the Men's 2009 champion. Runner up was Wayne Bach after a very intense day of competition.
Well done to all the finalists and many thanks to all those who supported the event through the year. We look forward to 2010 event, cards for which can be purchased from Sat 30th January.
